Step 3: Funding decision
Only the proposals that are recommended for funding by external reviewers will be considered by the Fund's Advisory and Executive Committees. The Advisory Committee assists the Executive Committee in ensuring that proposals considered for funding meet the standards of high quality and effective research. The Advisory Committee is comprised of professionals who have the scientific expertise to make recommendations on proposals under consideration. Recommendations on the amount, duration, and/or specific conditions of funding are made based on the evaluations of external peer reviewers and are presented to the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee, comprised of professionals from both medical and non-medical fields, ensures that the Fund's portfolio of funded projects is of high quality and represents the Fund's mission. The Executive Committee reviews the recommendations of the Advisory Committee and makes funding decisions based on the Fund's priorities and objectives. If a project is not approved for funding by either the Advisory Committee or the Executive Committee, the Principal Investigator is notified by letter after the Executive Committee meeting. If a project is approved, the Research Manager notifies the Principal Investigator and the Award Letter and Conditions of Grant are sent in the mail. |
